About Us
Who we are
We are K’s Tavern, a Toronto neighbourhood tavern at 401 Adelaide St W in Queen West. We make room for different kinds of visits: long dinners in the dining room, short lunches, late glasses, and informal drinks at the bar. Our approach is built around good food, good wine, and good company, with hospitality that gives you room to settle in.
Our dining room is designed for the full arc of an evening. You can choose your own pace, spend time over a meal, or join us at the tavern bar for drinks and snacks. We also welcome larger gatherings in the Back Room, where shared-table dinners and receptions bring groups together in a more private setting.
Our culinary philosophy
We cook with the market, the weather, and the feeling in the room. Our cooking is seasonal and grounded in Ontario produce and Canadian seafood, while drawing on a wider range of culinary influences. We move between careful preparations and comforting dishes rather than following a fixed menu throughout the year.
The menu changes with the farms, the fishers, and the people working around the pass. That means a return visit may bring different ingredients, dishes, and drinks. Our wine program follows the same spirit: alongside the regular list, we keep a small collection of bottles selected because our team wants to share them with you.
We make space for both choice and guidance. You can order from the seasonal à la carte menu, or let the kitchen set the pace with the five-course K’s Menu. When you need a vegetarian version of the tasting menu, please give us notice so we can prepare it appropriately.
Ownership and hospitality
Mara Keene is identified with K’s Tavern as our chef and partner. Her guiding principle is that every guest should leave feeling they have found a place they can return to. That idea shapes how we think about the room: familiar enough for a regular visit, but considered enough for a dinner that matters.
We have not published a founding date, a detailed opening story, or a fuller account of Mara Keene’s professional background. We also do not currently have a documented list of owners or operating partners beyond Mara’s chef-and-partner role.
How we create a neighbourhood gathering place
We build the calendar around reasons to come back as the seasons change. Our house notes include cellar suppers with shared tables and rare bottles, patio dining with late snacks and spritzes, and Sunday lunch with hand-cut pasta and dessert service. These offerings sit alongside our regular dining room and bar program rather than replacing them.
For group occasions, the Back Room accommodates seated dinners for 10 to 34 guests and standing receptions for up to 48 guests. Menus are built for shared tables, with optional wine pairings and cocktail welcomes. Groups of seven or more can contact our events team when planning a visit.
We have not published specific community partnerships, charitable programs, local sponsorships, or other formal community initiatives. For now, our stated role in the neighbourhood is to provide a place where Toronto guests can eat, drink, gather, and return across the seasons.
